U15 AKS v Merchant Taylor

The U15's played in a low-scoring game struggling to get runs in the early exchanges and losing vital wickets. The middle batting order stepped in to sure things up, with Shakespeare getting us on the board then followed up by Reynolds with a solid 18 runs and Murray with 10. AKS finished with 72 off 20 overs.

AKS in the field were energetic and some fantastic bowling keeping the MTS run rate down, notable performances in bowling were Wright with 2 maiden overs and going for 15 runs in 4 overs. Shakespeare 7 off 3 overs and Reynolds with a maiden/wicket over and 9 off his 4 overs.

Despite their best efforts, MTS caught the AKS total with 2 overs to spare. A much-improved performance in the field despite the result.

U14 AKS v Merchant Taylor

AKS U14. 124/5
MT U14. 125/0

Quite literally AKS threw away victory with 3 balls to play, MT’s requiring 6 off 3 to win, poor fielding, and an overthrow gifted victory to the hosts.

A poor opening start by AKS with Flintoff out for 0, Urquhart & Kelly steadied the ship and put on a great partnership, with Urquhart retiring on 51, his first 50+ for AKS.

With Curran and Wyles following, AKS put in a good display and scored some vital runs, Wyles eventually finishing 19 n.o, with Kelly 22, the best of the batters.

With the ball in hand, AKS delivered some good balls, keeping the visitors to scraps and a low run rate after 10 overs, MT’s 45/10 (AKS 58/10).

With 10/12 players getting the opportunity to bowl, which was a positive, a few overs gifted MT’s a higher run rate and closed the gap on the chase total.

With 1 over to go, AKS had MT’s on 118, with 6 balls to go. With Urquhart taking the last over, there was high expectation that this would work to AKS advantage.

With 3 balls down, MT’s trailed by 6, AKS outfield closed in and some offensive batting put pressure on the field, hitting victory to the hosts.

A disappointing result and end to the game, lots of positives and plenty to improve upon within the field.

The boys were in great spirits after the game and were in full voice on the bus journey home! This is a great set of boys and a very talented year group.
