The sold-out ‘AKS Cabaret’ evening took place last night, with Senior, Sixth Form and Prep students performing a jam-packed programme of musical theatre and jazz numbers.

Head Student and compere for the evening, Oliver, opened the programme with a characterful performance of the aptly named ‘Wilkommen’ from Cabaret. We were then treated to three rousing pieces from the Swing Band (Birdland, When I Fall in Love, It Don’t Mean a Thing), before Rhys wowed the crowd with his rendition of Sway, made popular by Michael Bublé, followed by Kirtika’s performance of Somewhere Over the Rainbow at the other end of the register.

The Senior Choir, featuring the Percussion Ensemble, sang Adiemus, followed by Seasons of Love (from Rent). The musical theatre theme continued with the Chamber Choir and soloists performing a variety of hits from Frozen, Up, Coco, Cars, and Ratatouille. The Concert Band closed Act 1 with a musical montage from Pixar and All That Jazz from Chicago.

Act 2 commenced with the Prep School Choir’s selection of catchy songs from Matilda which enabled several soloists to showcase their talents. It was wonderful to see children from Years 3-6 show such confidence and clear enjoyment of music.

Jazz featured heavily in Act 2, with jaw-dropping performances from Louis, Jacob (piano), and Hugo (saxophone), in addition to more musical numbers sung by a range of soloists and cast members from Oliver! Exceptional vocal performances were also delivered by some talented students including Miranda and Liberty, who treated us to powerful songs from the world of musical theatre.

8:Fifteen gave a wonderful performance of Feeling Good and the programme closed with the Swing Band returning to the stage to play American Patrol, All the Things You Are and The Chicken.

The audience was spellbound throughout, and the hall was filled with increasingly rapturous applause as the evening went on. A real success for all involved.
