Zaynab and Charlotte in Year 10 represented AKS in both of the Round Square ‘Language Lab’ collaborations hosted by Elaraki International School in Marrakesh, Morocco, and Calgary French and International School in Alberta, Canada. Each event was attended by over 60 students from 18 schools in 8 additional countries - Bahamas, USA, India, Oman, Colombia, UK, Switzerland and the UAE.
The format of both events was focused on cultural themes such as music and food from around the world and were designed to encourage all attendees to try out their French listening and speaking abilities with other international students. Mini lectures were followed by Baraza group discussions and a plenary to finish.
Mrs Ashworth, Head of French, remarked: ‘What a fantastic opportunity! Zaynab and Charlotte were able to put the French they have been learning in the classroom into practice with real French speakers in different parts of the world. It was also a chance to gain confidence, whilst at the same time promoting the Round Square Ideal of Internationalism through communication with others. I am very proud of the courage and spirit of adventure which they demonstrated.’
Zaynab told us "I found the experience over the past two weeks really interesting to see how people all over the world from different schools speak French on different topics. The sessions were really good and tested our understanding of French. Overall I found the Round Square events very beneficial and worthwhile."
Charlotte also commented on her experience saying "I thought that the Round Square events were such a good opportunity for me as I am not the most confident at speaking French. It was great to speak French to other French learners from lots of different countries and I would definitely do another one of these again."
Well done to Zaynab and Charlotte for participating in the Round Square events and for being excellent international ambassadors for AKS.
