U13 Hockey triumph against GSAL and join U15's in National Cup Quarter Finals

AKS U13’s continued their Independent Schools Cup run with a hard fought victory against the Grammar School at Leeds and now join the U15 side in the quarter finals of this National Competition.

We started the game well and took the game to GSAL from the whistle forcing a save from their keeper in only the second minute. Amelia H's driving run minutes later saw us continue to put GSAL under pressure and the keeper was on hand again to save a well struck corner strike. GSAL were always dangerous going forwards and only good defending at a corner kept the scores level and despite winning more corners we could not find the net and at half time the scores were level at 0 – 0.

The second half saw us on the front foot again and we were rewarded for our attacking play when a cross into the circle from the lively Amelia H was touched round the GSAL keeper by Lucy W to take us into the lead. With our noses infront we had to defend well to thwart the GSAL forwards and only a superb save from keeper Sophie S kept us in the lead. GSAL continued to pose us questions but excellent marking and tackling by Esther T, Sophia M and Georgia S limited their scoring opportunities. GSAL had a corner just fly past the post but with the result still in doubt nerves were eased slightly when we went two ahead thanks to a great goal from Anna V following a superb through pass from Sophia M. Camilla C and Charlotte Lavin played well up front giving us width and height however the result was still in the balance and only another great save from Sohpie S with 5 minutes to go kept our 2 – 0 advantage which we maintained until the final whistle when we could celebrate a superb victory.

Overall a great disciplined team performance and a deserved win against strong opposition and we now look forward to the challenge of a quarter final match later in the term.
