AKS U13 win Jean Torrance Tournament

PUBLISHED 18 September 2021

Saturday saw the rescheduled Jean Torrance Hockey Tournament played at AKS with Ashford School from Kent making the long journey to take on AKS, Preston Hockey Club and Lytham High School. After such a long time it was fantastic to see lots of young hockey players enjoying their sport again and AKS was buzzing with activity all day.

After an action packed day the AKS U13A team retained the prestigious trophy remaining unbeaten throughout the day and more impressively not conceding a single goal.

With victories over Ashford, Preston HC A team and AKS U14 in their section the team progressed  into the semi final unbeaten and in good form. Having negotiated the semi the final was played against Ashford School. After a close start to the game, great team play saw AKS impose themselves and dominate play and were rewarded as they took the lead before the break. More superb hockey from all the team led to a goal soon after the break and the final score 4 – 0 saw them pick up the trophy and winners medals whilst Ashford were rewarded with runner-up medals.

An AKS U14 team also played in the A tournament and played some good hockey throughout the day. Losses to the strong AKS A team and Ashford were followed by a superb battling performance against Preston Hockey Club A team. We created a number of chances to score but just could not find the net and good solid defending prevented Preston scoring so the final score was a draw at 0 – 0.

The B team tournament saw AKS B & C teams take on Preston Hockey Club B team and Lytham High. The B team had some close fought matches drawing against AKS C and Lytham and losing by just a single goal to Preston HC B team. The C team also played some good hockey and improved as the day progressed drawing with AKS B team and just losing out to Preston HC and Lytham.

After the section matches the final was a close affair with Lytham claiming winners medals and Preston Hockey Club B team runners-up medals.

Overall the day was a superb festival of hockey with all the girls improving as the day progressed and definitely enjoyed by both players and spectators after such a long absence on the touchlines!
