This Saturday saw our rugby teams play their block fixtures vs Altrincham Grammar School for Boys. For all match reports from these fixture please read on....

U12’s

On Saturday AKS played Althricham GS, the U12s played three short games.  The boys started slowly an in the first five minutes allowed Altrincham to run in four tries in very quick succession.  AKS then rallied and started to play some much better, structured rugby and spent the majority of the rest of the game in Altrincham’s half. The final score was 4-0 to Altrincham. The second game started in a much more positive fashion for AKS and after moving the ball wide they found space and scored their first try.  Building on this opener, they went on to win the second game 0-4.  The third and final game was a very well contested and showed some of the best rugby of the afternoon.  Despite an early try for AKS the final score was 3-1 in favour of Altrincham.  All in all, a very positive morning with the boys showing great spirit and undoubtedly making progress.  Special mention should go to Will W, Sam C and Charlie G for their contributions to each of the games.

U13’s

The U13 lost a close game following an epic come back, having started the game slowly.  The group were entered the match wanting to prove to themselves that they come together as a squad.

Altrincham got the jump early, scoring twice in quick succession and physically dominating the AKS team.

The resilience of AKS shone through for the rest of the match.  Scoring occurred at both ends and the score difference never widening further.  The AKS players turned around the momentum many times and absorbed pressure, in addition to exerting it on the opponents through increasingly smart play.  The result was never certain and support for both teams turned the match into a thriller.  The AKS leaders did so by example and the team came together as a solid unit.  Coaches, parents and spectators congratulated the teams after the match for an unforgettable tussle.  Final Score 45- 35

Tries: Josh S 3, Sam L, Sam L, Toby C & Finn R.

MOM: A genuine galvanised team effort led by Finn R & Toby C.

U14’s

The U14s carried on their unbeaten start to the season by winning a well contested game 38-12.  AKS started slow and unorganised but made progress throughout the match.  The first try came from a lovely piece of skill from Reece to tip the ball onto Noah to score under the posts. From here the boys started to develop some wide expansive play with some fantastic attacks from Rio down the wing and Tom through the centers.  Cameron again put some big tackles in to show his dominance as well as Harvey and Jeremy showing their strength in defense. Another good performance by the whole side.

Tries: Noah M, Reece G, Rio G-P, Jeremy N, Tom O x2

MoM: Jeremy N

U15’s

The U15’s lost 40-0 and at times the game reflected that score line.  Suffering from “still on the bus” syndrome for the first 20 minutes the game was away from us before half time, conceding 5 unanswered tries. The 2nd half was a very different affair and that was the biggest positive to take from the fixture.  Stronger running, greater communication and greater intensity made the it a much more competitive with Rhys S-R and Mark H finding a little more room and making breaks more often.  Theo I and George M-M worked tirelessly in the back-row but unfortunately they scored late on for a somewhat flattering score line. MOM: Josh E & George M-M

1st XI

ASK 1st XV played in a closely fought contest against Altrincham U17s.  This was a perfectly matched game for the young AKS side, who fielded 8 U16s in the team.  From the kick off, AKS started with intent keeping much of the possession and with great line speed, pressured the Altrincham attack.  Despite the AKS attacking efforts and phases of play, AKS were unable to break down the Altrincham defense. on 20 minutes  AKS spilled the ball on the half way for the Altrincham winger to gather and score a breakaway try.  This gave the visitors some momentum in the game, as they started to edge the upper hand scoring again off an AKS mistake to make the half time score 0-12.  In the second half, AKS took control of the game again and looked the dominant side.  With superb running from Toby P and Oliver K, allowed the outstanding Chris B to power across the line, kicked by Morgan D,  AKS were now on the hunt for the win.  AKS continued to batter away the the Altrincham defense and created 2 opportunities to score, with the last pass not going to hand. Despite the AKS efforts it was Altrincham who had the final say, with a well worked try after continuous pressure on the AKS line. Final Score 7-17

With the team playing so well, it is impossible to chose a player of the match.  The notable performances from Chris B, Tristan W, Ben F, Toby P, Oliver K and  Harry C and Morgan D both making an impact on their debuts.

This was a great game and an opportunity the AKS team to build some confidence

AKS look forward to our fixtures against Ripley St Thomas next weekend.
