This week vocalists, dancers and musicians representing each of our four school houses went head-to-head over a two-day lunchtime House competition.
On Tuesday we were treated to street dance, musical theatre and contemporary dance routines by Year 7 girls, followed by Evie G, Rowan, Charlotte and Esme impressing with their solo vocal performances. Many thanks to our special guest judges, Carl Walker and Iam Meeson from Blackpool Theatre Collective, who are industry professionals in Film, TV and West End Musicals including IDTA examiners.
After a hard-fought competition, Charlotte and Gracie (Gawthorpe) emerged victorious in the dance competition, with Esme (Rufford) claiming the trophy for singing.
Mr Dan Thomas (Prep School Music Co-ordinator) judged the music competition on Wednesday, with Ellie T (guitar), Will H (drums), Samuel B (piano) and Ben G (tamborine) battling it out in the final phase of the competition. Congratulations to Samuel (Samlesbury) who won.
Although, by its nature, there had to be 'winners', the spirit of the competition was to celebrate all the many types of performers across the school and to have fun. In particular, we would like to give a big 'shout out' to Ben G from Year 8 who volunteered to represent Leighton at music last minute, with a rendition of 'Mr Tamborine Man' which got the crowd going! Similarly, to Evie G, from Year 7 who volunteered to represent her house in place of an absentee too. What a way to spend lunch time - with lots of staff coming to support their houses and to enjoy the talent on stage.
Well done everyone, you smashed it!
