This year’s public Carol Service took place on Wednesday 13th December at St Thomas’ Church which provided a beautiful setting for the musical and biblical celebration led by the Reverend Anne Beverley, alongside our alumni, staff, students and families.
Following his stunning performance of The Snowman at our Prep School Christmas Spectacular and subsequent performances with the Blackburn and Dawen Brass Band, George B (Year 5) opened the service as the soloist for Once in Royal David’s City.
Other notable performances included O Holy Night, Adolphe Adam (Anya K, Year 12), Christmas Lullaby, Jason Robert Brown (Alex W, Year 12), It Came Upon the Midnight Clear, Richard S Willis (Harriet A, Year 12), When You Believe, Stephen Schwartz (Sammy C, Alex W, Year 12).
The programme also included varied vocal ensembles, including the Prep School Chamber Choir (Glow, Eric Whitacre), the Senior School Choir, with featured Chamber Singers from Years 9 to 13 (Angel’s Carol, John Rutter; Somewhere in my Memory, John Williams), a cappella group (That’s Christmas to Me, S. Hayling and K. Olusola), and finally, the Senior School Chamber Choir (Joy to the World, Lowell Mason).
The congregation were also invited to sing: Once in Royal David’s City, In the Bleak Midwinter, Hark the Herald Angels Sing and O Come All Ye Faithful.
Many thanks to St Thomas’ Church, the Reverand Anne Beverley, the readers, and last, but not least, our Performing Arts department for giving us the most magical evening.
