AKS Prep Sport News Bulletin w/e 24th March - by Mr Moretti

PUBLISHED 23 March 2023

With a weather affected MAD March 2023, thankfully our sports stars have been able to take to the field of play over the past week across a variety of sports.

On Friday 17th March, our U11 Boys Hockey squad competed in the AJIS U11 Festival held in Bolton. With games thick and fast, our boys competed well and despite facing some very tough challenges competing against much larger Independent Schools from around the Northwest, our boys came away with their heads held high, defeats by narrow margins showing great signs of development in this short season for themselves.

Monday 20th March saw our U11 Boys Rugby squad in action at Merchant Taylors’, Crosby, in the AJIS U11 Festival. With conditions perfect for rugby, our boys did fantastic, and came away with 2 wins from 4 games, with an impressive comeback victory over KGS. The development in the squad has been great to see with the application on the pitch now visible. Well done to all the boys!

Tuesday 21st March and we had a feast of football on offer at AKS. Our KS1 football stars took to the pitch in the Wyre & Fylde Football Skillz Festival and had an amazing time with lots of smiles, fun, goals and challenges along the way. Both squads did well, with 1 AKS squad coming 2nd out of 10 schools on the day.

Tuesday also saw our U11 A & B football squads in action in the LSA League, with a win for the B’s and a defeat for the A’s. Both squads have shown massive development this season as we head into the Finale of the LSA Festival at AKS on Monday 27th March.

Our U11 netballers were also in action in the league on Tuesday looking to maintain their unbeaten league form, with wins for both the A&B squads it was another impressive night for the girls, who also now go into Monday’s Netball Festival in great form.

Wednesday 22nd March saw our U11A Hockey Squad travel over to St Mary’s Hall to compete in the SMH 2023 Hockey Festival. With the girls looking to end their season on a high, Mrs Dixon and her team were ready for action.

With 2 wins, a draw, and a loss, AKS met rivals KGS in the Plate Final. In an end-to-end game, both sets of girls gave a great spectacle for girls' hockey and were locked at 0.0 after normal time; moment of the game coming when Katie W somehow managed to clear the ball off her own goal line with KGS girls baring down on her.

Into extra time and AKS showed great tenacity and in the opening 2mins took a 2.0 lead with goals from Alyssa W and Sophia T proving pivotal in this clash. AKS were worthy winners of the match and Plate winners 2023, a fitting end to the season.

With just over a week to go, the action is set to continue with a further 3 festivals still to come, all hosted at AKS Lytham. Good luck to all our sports stars, we are all very proud of you all.
