On Tuesday 10th January, five students, together with Mrs Green, travelled to Lancaster University for their annual Florence Nightingale Day. The day involved a series of inspiring lectures on estimating ecological populations, Game Theory and Large Data sets. Students learned more about mathematical techniques from inspirational female mathematicians and statisticians.

Students were especially inspired by Robyn Goldsmith, a PhD student who explained her journey to becoming a PhD student and the resilience that studying maths brings to a person.

The day also involved a Big Maths Quiz, where each school was pitted against each other to answer 10 mathematical questions. Our team of five students held their own and proved that AKS is a force to be reckoned with on the academic field by becoming runners-up in the quiz against much larger teams, answering 9 out of 10 questions correctly.
