Some of the countries top archers converged on Lilleshall National Sports Centre last month to compete in the Archery GB National Senior Inter-Counties Championship 2022.

The Championships runs for two days and consists of two events. The Men’s and Ladies' team events on day one and the Mixed Team events on day two. The Combined Overall Team National Championship is decided upon based on the two days results.

The Lancashire Archery Association sent a compliment of male and female senior archers to the Championships, including a full squad of bare bow archers, including 2021 and 2022 U16 National Junior Ladies Outdoor Champion Evie Finnegan, to compete in her first national senior competition.

And Evie was not phased by the quality of the competition by finishing in 3rd place in the individual ranking qualifying round. Her two team mates finished in 2nd and 5th positions thus putting Lancashire Ladies in the number 1 top seeded position.

In the knockout rounds the Lancashire team then went onto win three straight rounds against strong competition, including a team from the RAF, to become British National Ladies Champions.

Day two saw the National Mixed Team Championships which again started with a 72 arrow individual ranking qualifying round. Evie scored exceptionally well again and was ranked 4th. In the pairs knock-out stage, Evie and her archery partner got through to the finals but they were unfortunately just beaten by the winning pair from Devon.

The weekends scores were totalled and the Lancashire Combined Team won the Overall National Barebow Championships 2022.

Two gold winning performances in one weekend, well done Evie!
