AKS U15 Hockey Team through to next round of Independent Schools Cup with win against Westholme

PUBLISHED 23 September 2022

AKS U15 hockey team progressed into the second round of the National Independent Schools Cup with a superb win against Westholme School, Blackburn.

The game was played in damp miserable conditions but at times the hockey played was superb with some great passing hockey switching play from one side of the pitch to the other to create many scoring opportunities.

We started the game on the front foot and went into an early lead in the 3rd minute thanks to a great penalty corner strike from Laura A. Further goals from Anya D, Amelia H and Kirtika S sealed the win in the first quarter of the game.  A great deflected shot by Eve C added to the score and Charlotte L showed good composure to win the ball from the Westhlome defence and coolly slot it past the keeper to make it 6 – 0. Lucy W dominated the centre of the pitch and her excellent driving run and pass found Charlotte L on the post to score her second and the teams seventh before the half time break.

After the break we continued to enjoy the lion’s share of possession and started to pass the ball well to change our point of attack. A reverse stick shot from Lucy W was well saved by the Westholme keeper but Anya D was on hand to force the ball over the line for her second of the match. A superb corner routine saw Laura A get her second before the final whistle to complete a superb performance.

With 6 different scores and nine goals it certainly was a great team performance and we look forward to the next round with confidence. Esther T was the Westholme Player of the Match with Lucy W getting the AKS award.
