After a two-year break due to the covid restrictions, Lytham Club Day 2022 was hotly anticipated. In a break with our tradition of having our Senior School Swing Band perform, our amazing Prep School singers and musicians entertained the crowds lining the streets of Lytham and were judged as Best in Class and awarded the Ellis Trophy.
This is a tremendous achievement given the astounding level of competition. All the floats looked amazing and we particularly enjoyed following the Lytham Round Table team who were dressed up as the Red Arrows - complete with red wheelbarrows and ‘formation wheeling’!
However, it was our Year 4-6 singers and Year 5 band, The Attic Monkeys who stole the show with the level of their musicianship, guided by the amazing Mr Thomas. Highlights included Prep favourite, You’re Not Alone (performed by the singers for the judges) and Tonight’s the Night, as well as a number of new songs. The Attic Monkeys got everyone dancing with the Black Eyed Peas’ I Gotta Feeling and entertained the crowds with George Ezra’s Shotgun amongst others.
Despite experiencing four seasons in one day, the crowds were undeterred and spirits were high. Thank you to everyone who supported us, from Threlfalls Haulage for our lorry; driver Stephen who went above and beyond for us, our site management team (Kev, Nikki and Leigh); the members of our walking procession (Nursery and Prep staff, children and families); the people of Lytham who lined the streets and the Club Day organisers.
Best in Class for the children’s open tableaux was the icing on the cake and our day ended with Mrs Ilhan and Mr Thomas being presented with the Ellis Cup at Lytham Hall making it a day to remember. We are already looking forward to next year!
