Year 8 and Year 9 girls crowned Fylde Coast Champions

It was another successful day in athletics for AKS with more trophies and records at the Fylde Coast Athletics Championships.

After qualifying for the National Finals the Yr 8 team continued their impressive season by adding the Fylde Coast Champions accolade to their list of achievements with a superb team performance to win the U14 Trophy with 97 points ahead of Kirkham Grammar with 91pts.

Talented athlete Charlotte L led the way breaking her own school record in the 100m with a time of 13.3s and made it a sprint double winning the 200m. Amelia H also continued her superb season winning the 75mHurdles and finishing second in the discus with a season’s best of 17.97m. There were also second place finishes for Rosie L in the shot (7.33m) and Hannah A in the javelin with her best of 18.19m and both finished fourth in the high jump and 800m respectively. Lily G gained valuable points finishing 3rd in the shot (7.29m) and 5th in the discus while Sophie S (javelin) , Evie A 1500m and Emile B all secured top 8 finishes.

The Year 9 were also crowned joint champions with Kirkham Grammar after a real team performance. Kirtika S ran superbly in the 300m to be crowned champion and a season’s best throw of 17.26m in the discus by Eve C also saw her in top spot. Lisa P improved her PB in the 800m with a superbly paced race to take 2nd place in a superb time of 2m43s and Laura A achieved two best performances in the High jump clearing 1.33m, just 2cm off the school record and in the 800m with a time of 2m52. Lucy W was also at her best in the 300m recording a time of 51.4s and also added valuable points finishing 4th in the hurdles and Harper C’s superb shot put ( 7.03m)  saw her secure 3rd place .Sasha P finished 6th in the hurdles a place also occupied by Anya D in the 200m and Lucy T in the long jump. The best race of the day however was in the relay which saw a superb run by Harper C, Anya D, Lucy W and Kirtika S who ran out of their skins to finish in 3rd place and secure the points needed to share the title.

The Year 7 team, competing in their first Championships, finished in runners-up spot after some superb performances. Camilla C was again in record breaking form this time in the long jump. Her superb leap of 4.55m smashed her own school record by an incredible 26 cm. Camilla also won the 150m and there were also wins for Anna V in the javelin and Olivia D in the discus with a PB of 20.50m. Olivia also came second in the 80m a spot achieved by Shelby Q in the standing triple jump with a leap of 5.71m. Gracie G scored points finishing 3rd in the high jump with a leap of 1.18m and 4th in the hurdles. Maisie W  was also a double points scorer finishing 3rd in the triple jump and 7th in the shot while Penny D ( hurdles) and Izzy H  in the shot added points.

With two trophies and two school records it certainly was another successful afternoon of athletics at AKS.
