AKS Cricketers start with a clean sweep

PUBLISHED 25 April 2022

AKS Cricketers have made a fantastic start to the season, winning a clean sweep of fixtures on Saturday against Giggleswick School.

The block fixture included fixtures for boys and girls across the age groups, with opportunities for players of all abilities and levels of experience.

Coming off a fantastic season in 2021, which culminated in a clean sweep of the Wyre & Fylde Cups across the year groups, AKS Cricketers have enjoyed a winter programme to fine tune their skills.

It has been a busy start to the cricket season and here are the results for the first week:

1st XI

AKS 102 Def by Kirkham Grammar 7/104. Player of the match Felix T with an exciting 27 runs and 2 wickets opening the batting and bowling on debut.

AKS 51 def by MCC 4/210 declared. Player of the match Daniel S with 3/30 from 13 overs bowling his off spin.

U15 Boys

U15 boys won picking off 83 in 8.5 overs. Felix retired with 38 runs hitting four 4's in one over. Toby with 14 and Sam Lo 15 off the bat. Top of the bowling was Harvey A taking 2 wickets in 4 overs and conceeding 14 runs. Lots to work on in the field. Finn and Toby also picked up a wicked each.

U15 Girls

U15 Girls won 155 to 74. Best player Katie L.

U14 Boys

U14’s comfortable winners in a very one sided contest.

Curran, Kelly & Urquhart all retired 30+

All boys (bar Kelly) bowled with Mayor taking a caught and bowled in his overs, confidence booster for himself and for all the boys who bowled.

Some excellent fielding from all with Curran in particular, making 2 run outs direct hit on stumps from a fair way out.

U13 Boys

U13s won by 23 runs. We posted 121-7, Xavier retired on 31, Hamza rebuilt with a fantastic 14 after a bit of a collapse. Mr extra top scored. Giggleswick finished their 20 overs on 98-6. A brilliant effort by all as every boy who wanted to bowl bowled at least 2 overs, with those who didn’t get chance to bat opening the attack.

A special mention has to go to Xavier who organised all the bowling changes and field placements with unbelievable maturity and compassion for his fellow teammates. A VERY positive start to the cricket season for the U13 boys.

U13 Girls

U13 Girls won 115 to 69. Best player Charlotte L.

U12 Boys

AKS 12’s won by 5 runs. Kiernan with two consecutive run outs from about 20 yards out each time. The lads played well and stayed positive throughout.
