AKS U14 hockey squad started the second half of the term in fine style with a superb victory over the strong Queens School from Chester with the whole squad of 19 players contributing to the result.

We started the game on the front foot attacking at pace from the first whistle and came close to opening the scoring when Layla W’s drag flick flew just wide from a corner in the 5th minute. Queens grew into the game and only a good save from Carrera M- M kept the scores level. We did take the lead in the 11th minute when a superb piece of individual skill by Layla saw her beat several Queens’s players and then slot the ball past the keeper to make it 1-0. A minute later things nearly got even better with a great move on the right finished with an Eve C shot but this also went just wide. Anya D and Kirtika S  linked well on the right to put Queens under pressure but we couldn’t add more goals and at half time the score was 1-0.

The second half saw us win several attacking corners early on but we could not find the net until Layla W became provider laying a perfect pass to Daisy-Mae E  in the circle and her  first time shot  found the corner of the goal to make it 2-0 and record her first ever goal for AKS. The feisty Queens midfield continued to battle hard but good defending by Lisa P , Connie S , Charlotte C plus more saves from Carerra M  M  and Sasha P  kept the scores level. Queens did however get reward for their efforts before the final whistle when they scored a well worked corner but the final score was a deserved 2-1 win to AKS.

Player of the match was Lisa P  for her consistent performance in a range of positions.
