Prep pupils end the term on a sporting high!

PUBLISHED 13 December 2021

It's been a very busy sporting active week for our pupils this week with massive success for all those who took part.

On Tuesday, 7th December, our Year 3 and 4 children took to the pool at the YMCA for their first annual swimming gala in the morning. In what was a wet and wild day outside, all the pupils swam magnificently and gave a great account of themselves to the watching spectators.

With lots of close competitive races and with so many major individual achievements in completing the races, it was quite a day to be part of AKS.

Congratulations to our overall House Winners, Gawthrope, who won the house trophy by 1point from Rufford in a closely contested competition.

Overall Year group Boy and Girl Champions were,  Year 3   Violet-Rose Taylor and William Chappell      Year 4   Penny Atkinson and Jack Leathers

Later that day, it was the turn of our Year 5 and 6 Girls football squads who took part in the Wyre & Fylde U11 Girls Football Festival, held at AKS. In conditions more suited to the North Pole at this time of year, all the girls and schools competing did not let the conditions spoil their afternoon and played some great football.

Our U11 Girls team battled all the way through to their final game and were just pipped to the title of champions after a narrow 2.1 defeat in their last game to the eventual winners. For their first competitive matches as a squad, it was a great credit to themselves for their hard work, grit, and determination. Camilla Wyles struck 5 goals throughout the festival with impressive performances from all the girls, most notably, Victoria Hackett who drove her team on all over the pitch.

Our U10 Girls had a tougher test of character battling the elements and some older girls' teams. Not to be outdone, the girls also did superbly well, and whilst not fighting for the title, still made the teams they played work hard for the win. It was great to see the whole of Year 5 class playing as a team and starting their footballing pathway at AKS.

On Thursday, 9th December, and it was an opportunity for our Year 3 and 4 children to take to court and compete in the Wyre and Fylde Basketball Festival held at AKS. With 2 teams representing Team AKS, the battle was on to play some ball and score some hoops, which made for a great afternoon for all involved. Team AKS2 were crowned overall champions, staying unbeaten in all their 5 games, whilst AKS1 won & lost during the afternoon, Penny Atkinson proving too hot to handle as she scored 4 in one game in her side's victory.

Next week sees the opportunity for our Year 5 and 6's to take to the swimming pool in their Gala just in time for the Christmas holidays.   Good Luck to everyone competing!
