Another superb morning of hockey against Bradford Grammar School

PUBLISHED 11 November 2021

It was an action packed morning as 7 teams took to the hockey field in our first ever AKS block fixture against Bradford Grammar School and it proved to be a very successful venture with five teams winning and the honours even in one other!

The 1st XI match saw Maddie R, Jessica A and Jessie A make impressive debuts in an exciting end to end game.  The young AKS team defended well and had a number of scoring opportunities but could not find the net. The game stayed level until the last eight minutes when the more experienced Bradford side capitalised on two goal scoring opportunities to win the game 2-0.

The U15 team had an excellent 4 – 1 win with Jessie A scoring all 4 goals. Lisa P dominated in the centre of the pitch and Jessie Allen was deservedly awarded the Player of the Match award after a great performance where superb positioning and control in front of goal saw her score 4 times!

U14 game was a close affair with honours even at the end of a hard fought match. We started well with Lucy T and Eleanor J having good efforts early on but it was Bradford who went ahead in the 12th minute with a goal from a corner. We continued to create chances and when Anya D broke clear of the defence only a good save from the keeper stopped us equalising and at half time the score was 0 – 1. Bradford started the second half on the front foot but good defending from Lucy W, Freya E, Connie S, Lara K and Charlotte C along with sound goalkeeping from Carrera M-M stopped Bradford going further ahead. Great closing down up front from Eve C and Chloe C put the Bradford defence under constant pressure and excellent link play by Laura A and Kirtika S saw us dominate down the right.  Anya D again went close before Eleanor J’s persistence on the left post paid off as she found the net on the second time of asking to earn a deserved draw 1 – 1. Players of the Match were Lucy W for her dominance in the centre and Anya D for her superb work rate throughout the game.

The U13 squad were the biggest winners with the A team winning 7 – 1 and the B team 7 – 0. Esther T gave a superb display for the A team to earn her the Player of the Match award whilst Rosie L picked up the B team award.

The U12A team match was much closer than the 8-0 score line suggests with AKS keeper Shelby Q making some excellent saves and the AKS forwards proving to be the more clinical in front of goal. Four well taken goals each for Anna V and Camilla C gave AKS their impressive 8-0 win. Player of the match was Camilla C who as well as scoring goals used her speed and skill to make some dynamic runs on the right. The U12B team attacked well and had much of the play in the first half but their efforts were frustrated by an in form opposition keeper. AKS took the lead early in the second half when a good run and cross from Maddie K found Millie C who swept it past the keeper. It was a good team performance but player of the match was undoubtedly Kate H who controlled the match in the centre of the field.
