AKS U15 Hockey team are celebrating a superb win in the U15 Independent Schools Cup Competition against Sedbergh School after a fantastic display of passing hockey.

The team took to the field knowing they had to be at their best and we started superbly , attacking at pace from the first whistle and winning a corner in the first minute. This set the tone for the first half and we attacked at pace with Layla W and Carly W dominating down the right. Our pressure saw us win several corners but we failed to convert and the quick Sedbergh forwards were always dangerous on the break. After a period of constant attacking and creating a number of scoring opportunities we deservedly went ahead in the 9th minute when Carly W showed her versatility when she found the net with a superb reverse scoop to take us into a 1 – 0 lead. We continued to dominate with Charlotte T controlling the centre of the pitch and all the team working hard to win back the ball. Great defending from Anya K, Sophie F and Lucy W constantly got to the ball first or pressured the Sedbergh forwards into errors and the unflappable Lisa P was always on hand to make a final tackle when the forwards did manage to break through. We got further reward for our excellent passing hockey when at another corner the ball found  Carly W on the post and she found the net for a second time to extend our lead.  Great pressing from Jessie A, Laura A and Carly W up front constantly pressurised the Sedbergh backs to win back possession and a third goal from a great corner strike from Charlotte T on the stroke of half time saw us go into the break with the score 3 – 0.

The second half saw Sedbergh raise their game and put us under a lot more pressure, limiting our passing options and forcing us into errors.  Sedbergh attacked at pace down their right and this required superb defending from Jessica A and Sophie F but they were up to the challenge and frequently thwarted the Sedbergh attacks. All the team worked hard in defence and despite not enjoying as much of the ball we always posed a threat and Carly W scored her hat-trick goal in the 10th minute with a superb individual goal. Intercepting a pass Carly used her pace to out run the Sedbergh defence and coolly slot the ball past the onrushing goalkeeper to make it 4 – 0. The rest of the game saw both teams work hard but at the final whistle AKS were celebrating a superb 4 - 0 win and a place in the next round of the competition.
