Careers

Our bespoke Sixth Form Careers Programme is tailored specifically to support our students with their Post-18 Options and is a natural progression of the careers guidance students have received throughout their time at senior school. Sixth Form students new to AKS receive instant access to our specialised support programme and all students are encouraged to explore their Post-18 Options at the start of Lower Sixth.

Students each receive a careers interview in Lower Sixth and follow-up meetings and enquiries take place throughout the two years.

Using reputable third-party online careers platforms such as Morrisby, Unifrog and UCAS students gain impartial up-to-date careers advice, which is supplemented by in-house support from members of our own sixth form team.

We regularly welcome speakers from the world of work and degree study into school, and talks are conducted as part of our Sixth Form Enrichment Programme, stand-alone evening presentations and our biennial Senior School Careers Evening. Students also benefit from exclusive access to our to comprehensive and continually growing alumni support directory. Our alumni are very keen to support our students with preparation for online assessments, mock interviews and CV writing. In addition, our series of OAKS Introduce webinars, offer students an opportunity to discover the varied career pathways our alumni and members of our Governing Body have forged.

Visits to UCAS exhibitions, universities, and employers further equip students to make informed decisions regarding their pathways after Sixth Form.

Our Sixth Form tutors are experts in the UCAS application process, and each student receives tailored support. Tutors support a small number of students, often no more than fifteen. A student’s individuality and personal strengths are highlighted throughout the application. We aim to submit all university applications before October half term of Upper Sixth, allowing our students’ applications to be the first to land on an admission tutor’s desks. Our early submission deadline means our Upper Sixth can focus their energies on their sixth form subjects.

Students with Oxbridge aspirations are offered robust support through a super curricular programme of study, admissions test and expert interview support.

For those with ambitions to study medicine, dentistry or veterinary medicine we offer a mock MMI evening in Upper Sixth which hones interview techniques.

Our career programme follows the Gatsby Benchmark, a framework of eight guidelines that defines the best in careers provision.

Whether you are considering applying to university in the UK or overseas, a degree apprenticeship, entering full-time employment or are considering a gap year or volunteering after Sixth Form, our varied and adaptive careers programme will provide the support you need.
