In order to deliver on our promise of Academic Ambition for every child, we track progress against the Early Years Foundation Stage framework in order to plan specific activities which will enable children to achieve, and often go beyond age-related expectations.
This prepares the children for their transition to our reception class, further supported by our reception teachers who visit the nursery on a weekly basis in the spring term. In the summer term the pre-school classes visit the reception classroom also on a weekly basis. This supplements the weekly specialist French, music and sport lessons that our pre-schoolers receive from preparatory school teachers.
In line with our through-school pathway, pre-school children are invited to events at the preparatory school and participate in weekly preparatory school assemblies. This helps them feel comfortable in the school environment and means many of the faces are familiar to them once they move up to the reception class.
Although nursery eat their lunch at a different time from the rest of the infant department, we use the same hall and have the same catering team, so the children will be well-known to staff who will go on to serve them lunch once they start school.
We hold special events specifically for the pre-school children such as a Teddy Bears' Picnic, a Mini-Beast Hunt and our Easter Fair.
