Organised by Thriving Minds, and hosted by Merchant Taylor’s School Crosby, this Senior Stretch event was a day full of thought-provoking lectures where we learnt about Plato, the mind and its relationship with music, Machiavelli and renaissance love and finally how do we define courage.
The lectures were delivered by expert speakers who engaged our curiosity and critical thinking. Each talk was explored in depth with complex theories and ideas presented in a clear, logical way where the speakers provided facts alongside practical examples making it easier to make connections with daily life and inspiring us on a deeper level.
The day concluded with a structured debate on whether we as humans are ruled by fear or by love where we were given detailed arguments for both sides. This encouraged different perspectives to be shown especially as the attendees were given a special opportunity to speak; students Leo G and William M-R jumped at the chance to put their unique ideas forward.
Overall, this trip provided a valuable and insightful opportunity to extend learning beyond the classroom and into a higher educational setting widening our knowledge and preparing us for the future.
