Advanced Physiotherapist gives insight into 'Sports Injury Management' as part of EPP

On 22nd January 2026, we were delighted to welcome local Advanced Physiotherapist Rob Hamilton to AKS Lytham as part of our Thursday Takeover and Sports Enhanced Performance Pathway (EPP).

Rob spoke openly with our students about his journey through physiotherapy and the experiences that have shaped his career. From working with Preston North End Football Club and Sedgley Park Rugby Football Club to supporting athletes on the world stage at the London 2012 Olympic Games and the Commonwealth Games, his stories gave students a real sense of what life looks like behind the scenes in professional and elite sport.

Students from Year 7 through to Year 10 were fully engaged as Rob explored sports injury management in a clear and relatable way. He helped them understand why injuries happen, when they should be taken seriously and how they can be managed properly. There was a strong focus on recognising signs and symptoms early, as well as being aware of age-related injuries that can occur as young athletes grow and develop.

One of the highlights was Rob’s explanation of the PEACE & LOVE principles in acute injury management. This led naturally into a discussion around progressive loading, helping students appreciate that recovery is a process that needs patience, structure and the right decisions at the right time.

The session was practical, thought-provoking and very relevant to our students, many of whom are already heavily involved in sport. It gave them knowledge they can apply straight away, while also encouraging them to think more carefully about their long-term health and performance.

We would like to say a huge thank you to Mr Hamilton for giving up his time to visit and for sharing his experience and expertise with our young athletes.
