Special Effects Stage Makeup Workshop - a review by Isla, Year 11

On Tuesday 1st October, members of the Drama Department attended an SFX workshop which was run by Donna Tyler. This workshop was for the years 7-13 which included Drama Scholars across all years, GCSE and A – Level. In the workshop we were shown how to create false injuries like bruises and deep cuts. This workshop was extremely beneficial for our upcoming musical of Sweeney Todd as we can now create fake cuts that will be perfect for when Sweeney kills... Learning about SFX makeup will be a great skill we can put onto our CVs in the future I found this workshop perfect for my upcoming Drama GCSE as it will help create looks for our scripted piece.

During this workshop, the part I most enjoyed was when we got practical ourselves, once Miss Tyler showed us all three examples with her volunteers then it was our time to investigate. We first started with the liquid latex which turned out to be a very realistic and clever cut. Overall, I found this very enjoyable and took away some new skills I didn't know I had.

Very enjoyable experience, and very interesting to learn how to make injuries – Johnnie R Year 10

“It was so good, i learned so much about makeup and it will help us in the musical” – Estelle B Year 9

“It was really fun, and I enjoyed learning how to use the products”– Elena Year 7
