Year 12 Evening of Inquiry

AKS Year 12 students demonstrated exceptional curiosity, scholarship, and confidence during the annual Evening of Inquiry, held on 11th May 2026. The event brought together parents, staff, and members of the wider community to celebrate the students’ academic achievements and independent research.

Beginning at 6pm, the Sixth Form Common Room was transformed into a vibrant exhibition space. Display boards featuring academic posters stood alongside substantial 2,500-word essays of undergraduate quality, creating an atmosphere that was both welcoming and intellectually stimulating. As visitors moved around the room, they were invited to engage directly with the students, asking questions and discussing ideas, fostering a shared sense of curiosity and academic enthusiasm.

The breadth of topics on display reflected the diverse interests and ambitions of the students. Subjects ranged from The Psychology Behind Diverse Emotional Reactions to Music to explorations such as To what extent can scientific research improve early detection and prevention of brain disease in rugby players? and How do childhood experiences influence behaviour in later life? This range highlighted not only depth of understanding but also an impressive willingness to tackle complex and thought-provoking issues.

A key strength of the evening was the confidence with which students communicated their ideas. In an informal yet focused setting, they engaged equally well with both knowledgeable audiences and those new to the subject matter. Their ability to explain, discuss, and respond thoughtfully was widely praised by parents and staff alike, demonstrating not only subject mastery but also the development of critical thinking, research skills, and effective public speaking.

The success of the Evening of Inquiry underscores its growing importance within the school calendar. It stands as a celebration of the dedication and academic ambition of AKS students, while also reinforcing the value of independent learning and intellectual exploration. The evening left a strong and lasting impression, marking it as a truly memorable occasion for all involved.
