Written by Rebecca B - Year 7 Drama Scholar
My name is Rebecca B and this year's musical is Les Misérables the School Edition. I am in the ensemble, and I am so excited about the show.
The rehearsals have already begun! We are practising in a black box studio and the music recital room for this week's rehearsals.
I absolutely love singing and acting. This past week, we have been learning to sing Look Down, Master of the House, Lovely Ladies and the Epilogue. The music teachers (Mr. Brown and Mr. Hodder) are amazing teachers and helped us to sing strongly, how to emphasise words, and for some songs learn how to sound sarcastic with emphasising. We have been practicing one song in particular, the Epilogue, because we sung and acted the song to parents on Monday night to show them what we’ve been up to. Throughout the week we haven’t just been singing, we have also been learning facial expressions, hand gestures and standing postures to incorporate into the songs, which makes them very entertaining. Miss Worthington and Miss Hobbs, who are brilliant as well, have been teaching and showing us these expressions.
During rehearsals, I feel relaxed and happy. I am taking part in singing clubs at lunch and have learnt some good tips for singing high notes.
As well as preparing for the AKS musical, I am rehearsing for a show at the Grand Theatre, Blackpool, with my dance school, where I will play Fagin in Oliver. Some of these rehearsals clash with my AKS rehearsals, but I aim to balance both, and my goal is to give 110% enthusiasm and effort.
I think all the teachers and cast members are reassuring, kind and helpful. I think this year’s show will be amazing, and I can’t wait to perform!
