It All Adds Up! Number Day 2026

Number Day 2026 filled the Prep School with excitement once again, with brilliant costumes and a real buzz for maths. Children arrived proudly wearing their Dress Up for Digits creations, from hand-designed number T-shirts to sports tops, capes and even superhero digits – all helping raise money for the NSPCC and their vital work with children.

To begin the day, the children joined together for assembly to learn more about the important work the NSPCC carries out, before hearing about the exciting activities planned for each year group. They also enjoyed listening to Mr Avis’s ‘multiplication’ folk story, One Grain of Rice.

Here’s what the children got up to…

In Reception, the children were whisked away into a world of Numberblocks and superhero maths missions. Their classroom transformed into a colourful adventure space where Numberblocks helped guide them through counting tasks, pattern spotting and tiny superhero challenges. Joyful giggles filled the room as caped Reception pupils raced to complete their missions.

Year 1 launched into an energetic number bond scavenger hunt that had them searching high and low for hidden clues. This led into a Hands-on LEGO Fractions challenge where pupils built halves and quarters using bright bricks. Their faces lit up as their understanding clicked into place, discovering just how visual and playful fractions can be.

Year 2 stepped into their imaginative Sweetshop, inventing maths-powered gadgets before diving into Money Numbots activities. Their final challenge, Robot Repairs, had them fixing broken circuits by answering quick-fire addition and subtraction questions. The children threw themselves into every task with enthusiasm, cheering each time a robot powered back up.

Year 3 began the day exploring tessellating patterns, creative shape challenges and number-themed puzzles – a blend of reasoning tasks and teamwork that stretched their problem-solving skills.

In Year 4, the day took on an artistic twist as pupils used compasses to craft neat concentric circles before plunging into a series of Mathematical Mazes. They debated strategies, tested routes and celebrated each successful escape. Strategy, logic and creativity were all on full display.

Year 5 embraced a secret agent theme, spending part of the morning decoding and sending hidden messages using Cipher Wheels. Their teamwork and problem-solving were impressive, and once the codes were cracked, they moved confidently into Mathsionaire, the ever-popular quiz game. The tension, laughter and competitive spirit made it a real highlight.

At the top of the Prep School, Year 6 tackled two Upper KS2 challenges: Ratio Rally and Pop Star Percentages. Whether racing through proportion problems or calculating real-world percentages linked to commodities and recipes, they showed maturity, focus and plenty of flair.

A huge thank you goes to our Year 6 Leadership and Service Pillar Leaders — Alena, Alexa and Archie, the A Team — for their excellent reporting throughout the day. They interviewed pupils, photographed activities and gathered stories that truly captured the spirit of Number Day. Their confidence, teamwork and maturity shone through; we are incredibly proud of our Round Square leaders. Extra mention to Austin in Year 6 for dressing up as Mr Avis — fully suited and booted, complete with stubble and even a teacher lanyard! A brilliant effort — well done!

Number Day remains one of the happiest and most uplifting days in our school year. It brings the whole community together to celebrate creativity, curiosity and the joy of learning, all while supporting the NSPCC’s life-changing work. What a fantastic day — it really did add up! All the generous donations from our children and families will be sent directly to the NSPCC to support their continued work with young people. Thank you so much, everyone!
