In Memoriam: Kevin Adamson

It is with great sadness that we mark the passing of Kevin, a loyal and industrious member of our archive volunteer team, whose contribution to the school’s historical record was both significant and lasting.

Kevin began volunteering in the archives in the mid-2010s, working alongside professional archivist Helen Unsworth and dedicating regular weekly time to the vital work of cataloguing and organisation. Although he had no prior connection to the heritage schools and had travelled from the North East, he very quickly became a valued and trusted part of the team.

His work was meticulous and productive. Kevin tackled extensive cataloguing projects for Arnold and for KEQMS, helping to bring clarity and order to an ever-growing archive collection. He also played a central role in establishing the archive room for KEQMS/AKS, including sourcing, ordering and installing the racking system that remains part of the archive’s foundations today.

Kevin’s passion project, and one of his most important legacies, was his research into the Great War. With remarkable diligence, he worked to connect the service records, achievements and burials of former KES and Arnold pupils to their wider regional and national context. This research continues to be highly valued by the school and remains an enduring tribute to his commitment.

Those who worked with Kevin will remember him not only for his dedication, but for his genial nature, down-to-earth warmth, and gentle sense of humour. We are deeply grateful for all he gave to the school, and we extend our sincere condolences to his family at this difficult time.
