Great start to season for AKS Hockey teams with honours even against Kings School, Macclesfield

The AKS hockey season got off to a superb start with 4 teams playing against the traditionally strong Kings School, Macclesfield and the honours being even with two wins a piece.

The U15A team put in a spirited performance against a strong King’s Macclesfield side, eventually losing 5–1. It was a game of two halves with Kings Macclesfield starting strongly and dominating the first half in which they scored 3 goals but the second was a much closer affair with Kings just coming out on top 2 – 1. There were some excellent passages of link-up play in attack, rewarded by a superbly taken goal from Camilla W while at the other end, Jenay G made a string of brilliant saves and was deservedly named player of the match. Despite the result, the girls showed great teamwork and determination right until the final whistle.

The U14 squad were playing their first ever 11 a side match but they made a superb start to the season playing some fantastic hockey and winning 3-1. A fast start saw us take an early lead as Sophia T slotted the ball home after some great passing hockey. Kings Mac then improve and enjoyed some possession but great defending by all the team thwarted their best efforts. Evie B was dominant at the back marshalling her defence superbly and making some excellent tackles whilst Sadie A and Charlotte R used their pace and fitness to link attack and defence brilliantly. Kings did get on terms against the run of play mid-way through the half but we went ahead again before the break through another well taken goal this time by Alyssa W. After the break we played some fantastic passing hockey with all players going in confidence as we dominated possession and we deservedly went further ahead with a superb individual run and reverse stick shot from Sadie A to make the final score 3-1. There were lots of great performances but opposition player of the match was Evie G and AKS Evie B.

In their first game of the season, the U13A team put in a strong performance in a narrow 3–2 defeat. There were many positives to take, with good defensive work, promising build-up play, and clear improvement in on-pitch communication. The team can be proud of their efforts and will look to build on this performance as the season progresses.

The U13B team made a strong start to the season with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over King’s School Macclesfield. The girls showed great teamwork throughout, even if they were a little quiet on the pitch at times. Encouragingly, they began to build play confidently from the back, demonstrating real progress in their game. A positive opening fixture and a solid foundation for the season ahead.

Twenty-five enthusiastic girls took their first steps on the AKS hockey pathway this week. The session opened with a high-energy fitness circuit featuring shuttles, squats, and a variety of SAQ challenges. From there, the group focused on developing passing and movement skills before finishing with competitive 3v3 games. A hugely positive start, with plenty of promise shown for the season ahead.
