The U13 and U14 girls and boys enjoyed an outstanding football tour to Salou, Spain last week, combining competitive fixtures with unforgettable cultural and sporting experiences.
For the U14 and U13 girls, the tour marked their first experience of playing together as a team. Facing strong opposition in two challenging fixtures, they approached both matches with enthusiasm and determination. Although the results did not go their way, the players left the pitch smiling, having gained valuable experience and strengthened their passion for the game.
The boys B team also faced two demanding matches. After a tough opening fixture on Friday evening, they produced a spirited performance on Sunday in a thrilling contest, scoring four goals in an end to end encounter that showcased their attacking intent and teamwork.
The C team, made up of a mixed group of U13 and U14 players who had not played much together previously, encountered a well organised side in their first match. Despite the challenge, the team’s attitude was exemplary. On Sunday, their resilience and determination were clear to see, with Mr Chadwick praising the players for their work ethic and commitment against strong opposition.
The A team quickly found their rhythm despite also being a mixed age group. In Friday’s fixture, following an early morning departure from AKS at 1am, they showed impressive character to come from a goal down and secure a 5 to 4 victory against a physically stronger side. On Sunday, they once again demonstrated resilience, overturning a 1 to 0 deficit to win 3 to 1 against a talented Spanish team.
Off the pitch, the tour offered a wealth of memorable experiences. On Friday, students visited the Barcelona Football Museum at the Nou Camp, exploring the club’s rich history before enjoying time in the club shop.
Saturday included a professional coaching session with a UEFA Pro coach, followed by a trip into Barcelona to watch Espanyol vs Celta Vigo in La Liga. The exciting 2 to 2 draw was enjoyed by students and staff alike.
After Sunday’s fixture, the teams took part in a further coaching session and tournament to round off a fantastic few days.
Across all four teams, students displayed excellent school spirit and represented the school with pride both on and off the field. The tour provided not only valuable match experience, but also lasting memories and a renewed enthusiasm for the game.
