Finally, a Sports Day that went ahead exactly as planned!

Despite a damp start to the morning, the weather did little to dampen spirits as children took part in the field events, throwing as far as they could and jumping as far as possible in their quest to become the greatest jumpers and throwers of 2026. The morning showcased some phenomenal talent, with 8 sports records broken across the various events.

By the afternoon, the sunshine had arrived and the children eagerly gathered on the field, ready for the track events to begin. The action got underway with the 60m and 80m sprints, followed by the exciting 150m races. Every child competed with pride and passion for their house, determined to earn valuable points. The heats produced some incredibly close contests, with several finals requiring photo finishes to separate the athletes.

Attention then turned to the optional 300m and 600m races. It was fantastic to see so many children choosing to challenge themselves over the longer distances, demonstrating resilience, determination and a real love of competition.

The day concluded with the much-anticipated House Relay. The fastest boy and girl from each house in every year group took to the track one final time, sprinting for glory and valuable house points. The excitement was palpable, and several more track records were broken during the afternoon's events.

As the children enjoyed their well-earned ice lollies, kindly provided by the PTA, the final scores were calculated:

Final house results:
  • 1st Leighton - 437
  • 2nd Samlesbury - 425
  • 3rd Gawthorpe - 348
  • 4th Rufford - 306
From Pre-School to Year 6, Sports Day saw over 200 children participate in a wide range of running, jumping and throwing events. There were smiles all around, countless examples of teamwork and encouragement, and a tremendous display of house pride.

We are incredibly proud of all the AKS children for the enthusiasm, determination and sportsmanship they showed throughout the day. It was a wonderful celebration of participation, achievement and community spirit. Well done to everyone involved! 🏅🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🎉
