Common Sense Club – Week 4

Last week, our Common Sense Club, which this week was led by Matron, held a fantastic session on babysitting small children and babies. Students learned about the legal aspects of babysitting, including the minimum age and important responsibilities.

Matron provided hands-on training in basic first aid, teaching how to handle minor injuries, choking, and other common scenarios. The session wrapped up with practical advice on what to do in emergencies, helping students understand how to stay calm and act quickly when needed.

It was a valuable learning experience for everyone, equipping them with crucial skills for babysitting safely and responsibly.

Common Sense Club – Week 5

Yesterday, Mr. Riding held a session on Bike Maintenance and brought along his bike to teach us all how to service our bikes, how to be prepared in case of an emergency, and how to ensure we are safe when riding.

During the session, Mr. Riding walked us through the key steps in basic bike maintenance, covering everything from checking tyre pressure to adjusting brakes and chains. He explained how to clean essential parts to keep bikes in good working order and shared tips on spotting wear and tear before it becomes a bigger issue.

He also emphasised the importance of bike safety, teaching us about wearing helmets, proper gear, and how to be visible on the road. Mr. Riding gave advice on creating a simple emergency repair kit to carry when cycling, so we are better prepared to handle any mechanical problems on the go.

The session was very informative and gave everyone a clear understanding of how to take better care of their bikes and stay safe whilst riding. We left feeling more confident in our knowledge of bike maintenance and road safety.
