BBC 500 Words Finalist Annaiya Celebrates at Windsor Castle

We are delighted to share wonderful news about Annaiya in Year 6, who has been selected as a finalist in the prestigious BBC 500 Words competition and invited to attend the grand final at Windsor Castle.

BBC 500 Words is one of the UK’s most highly regarded creative writing competitions for young people. Each year, thousands of children from across the country submit original stories of 500 words or fewer. To be named as a finalist is an exceptional achievement.

Annaiya’s story was a powerful and deeply personal piece exploring the experiences of a child with autism. Drawing thoughtfully on her own understanding, she created a moving narrative that reflected both the challenges and the unique strengths of seeing the world differently. Her writing demonstrated not only creativity and skill, but also empathy and courage in sharing a perspective that will help others develop greater understanding.

As part of the finalist celebration, Annaiya attended a special event at Windsor Castle in the presence of Her Royal Highness Queen Camilla. Walking through such an historic setting and being part of this national celebration of young writers made the day truly unforgettable.

During the event, Annaiya also had the opportunity to receive feedback and encouragement from acclaimed authors including Malorie Blackman and Francesca Simon, an inspiring experience for any aspiring writer.

Annaiya described the day as “amazing” and said she felt proud to represent her school. She has shared her gratitude for the encouragement she has received in developing her love of reading and writing, which has supported her on this journey.

The winners from Annaiya’s age category will be announced on The One Show on 6th March and will also be available to watch on BBC iPlayer. It promises to be an exciting moment for all the finalists.

Please join us in congratulating Annaiya on this outstanding accomplishment. To reach the final of a national BBC competition and celebrate at Windsor Castle is a remarkable achievement, and we are incredibly proud of her talent and determination.
