AKS athletes had a fantastic start to the season as four school records fell in their first competitive outing of the season at the English Schools Cup Competition with U13 and U15 girls and boys teams involved.
The U15 girls team produced some outstanding performances to finish 1st in the Inter girls competition, with the girls U13 finishing 9th and boys finishing 9th and 10th respectively.
Star performer on the day was Yr 9 Charlotte R who ran a superbly paced race from the front to break the 800m record with a time of 2m25.0s to score 28 points and then set a PB in Long Jump with a jump of 4.35m for 17 more points. Sadie A also shone scoring 41 points for the team. On the track she ran a superb 1500m to smash the school record set in 2014 with a time of 5m 29s and also set a new personal best in the high jump with a leap of 1.44m. Another 12 year old record to fall was in the Year 10 Long Jump where Adrianna E soared out to a leap of 4.97m and also added valuable points with a great hurdles run of 13.7s. The fourth record to fall was in Year 10 Hammer where Camilla W threw 31.20m to claim the record and 24 points whilst Natalie H threw an impressive personal best of 27.38m. All the other girls performed superbly to contribute points to the team total and saw the team take top spot with 380 points to qualify for the A Final after half term.
In the Intermediate Boys team star performer was Henry F who ran superbly in the 300m to clock a time of 40.2s and add 21 points to the team score while 19 pt performances came from Frederico N in the 100m and Tom C in the 800m. William H ran well in the 200m whilst Harry S’s 2m34 added a further 15 points. In the field top performer was William H who threw 23.55m in the discus and the team secured 9th spot with 282 points.
There were plenty more superb performances on the track and in the field by our Junior athletes with Yr 8 Grace W showing her huge sprinting potential by running 13.7s in the 100m to score 22 points and also long jumping 4.19m for 17 more points. Penny A ran superbly in the 800m (2m52s) whilst in her first competitive 300m Priya P did brilliantly to come home in 49.4s. Great throwing performances from Arabella C 6.96m in the shot and Amelie Y in the discus 17.42m also added 15 and 16 points respectively. The team totalled 254 points to finish in 9th place.
Star performer in the Junior Boys event was Max V who threw 14.02m in the Javelin for 17 points with Alex W running 800m in 2m45 ( 15pts) Ben J high jumping 1.32m (14pts) and Henry C 200m 29.7s (13pts). The boys team totalled 237 points to secure 10th spot.
