Artistic Skill and Creative Ambition Across the Art Department

Students across the Art Department are developing their technical skills and creative confidence through a range of exciting and challenging projects this term.

Year 9 students have begun a new project inspired by contemporary artist Michael Craig-Martin. As part of this work, pupils have explored his bold use of line, vibrant colour and everyday objects. Using acrylic paint, students are learning how to mix and blend colours effectively, applying these techniques to produce careful artist copies in the style of Craig-Martin. This project is building a strong foundation of skills and understanding, which Year 9 will use to develop their own personal, creative responses inspired by his work.

Meanwhile, Year 10 GCSE Art students are taking on the demanding technique of Pointillism. Working on observational pieces, students are creating tonal and coloured compositions using individual dots, a process that requires exceptional patience, focus and precision. Their commitment to this highly detailed method has resulted in some impressive outcomes, showcasing both technical control and artistic maturity.
