Melissa grew up in a village just outside of Blackpool. She completed a degree in English Language at the University of Central Lancashire, followed by a PGCE at Edge Hill University, where she qualified as a secondary English and Drama teacher.
Once qualified, Melissa began teaching at Millfield Science and Performing Arts College in Thornton Cleveleys and has been there for 25 years. During this time, she has taught English Language, English Literature, Drama and Sociology at GCSE level, and English, Performing Arts, PSHE and Religious Studies at Key Stage 3. She has held numerous management responsibilities, including the Library, Whole School Literacy, and Able, Gifted and Talented provision.
In addition to her professional achievements, Melissa is a voracious reader and passionate about encouraging young people to read for pleasure. In her spare time, she loves to cook and is a keen quizzer and cryptic crossword enthusiast.
