In atrocious weather conditions the AKS U15 girls athletics team did themselves proud as they overcame the elements to finish in a superb 4th place in the North West Finals of the ESAA Schools Cup Competition and saw another school record broken
Despite the constant rain there were some outstanding performances on both the track and in the field. Top field performance of the day was from high jumper Sadie A who broke the school Yr 9 High Jump record with a personal best jump of 1.47m. Sadie also produced a superb run in the 1500m (5m35s) to add a further 20points to the team total.
On the track there was another superb run from Charlotte R who scored 26 points with her run of 2m30s in the 800m. She added further 13 points with a long jump of 4.04m.
There were superb performances in the Hammer where Natalie H was close to her best with 25.81m (15 points) while Camilla W added 16 points with 23.83m. Other high scoring events for the team were the hurdles where Adrianna E clocked 14.0s for 18 pts and was ably supported by Sophia T whose 15.3s run added 14 pts. Evie G ran a season’s best to get under 6 minutes in the 1500m to score 17 pts with a time of 5m 51s. There were also 16 point performances from Elsie T in the 300m ( 48.4s) and Alyssa W in the 200m ( 29.4s) .
Overall it was a real team effort as each of the 14 athletes had to take part in a field event and a track event with points being awarded for the time/distance achieved and everyone contributed to the final team total of 321 points which saw the team claim 4th place. A superb performance against all the top athletics schools in the North West.
