It was another action packed week of sport at AKS with cross country taking centre stage along with football and rugby.
The week started with the Wyre & Fylde Cross Country Championships hosted at AKS and there were some outstanding performances especially from the from the Year 9 girls. Charlotte R dominated the Year8/9 race from the gun, taking an early lead and never looking back to be crowned Wyre & Fylde Champion. There was also a great run in 3rd place by Sadie A with Evie G 11th, Sophia T 13th , Freya W 24th and Emily B 31st.
Charlotte R and Sophia T then represented Fylde in the Lancashire Championships and both ran superbly and did themselves proud. On a grueling course Charlotte produced an outstanding run to finish in 9th spot and was named as reserve to represent Lancashire at the English schools championships later in the term. Sophia was the second Fylde runner home in 46th spot.
Another top three finish came in the Year 9 Boys event where Raff Liversidge- Cooke produced an superb run to finish 3rd. Raff also represent Fylde in the Lancashire Schools and finished a creditable 26th.
Top performer in the Year 7 boys team was Henry C in 23rd spot closely followed by Henry O’L in 28th and Nithian M in 29th whilst the Year 7 girls team was led home by Alexia G in 12th place with Sienna W in 14th.
The AKS 1st team football got back to winning ways rebounding from their ISFA exit with a comprehensive win against Ormskirk in the Lancashire Cup quarter final.
Playing against a small Ormskirk squad and off the back of their first loss of the season, AKS needed a professional performance. This absolutely was the case, as we came out of the traps fast and played some superb football to go 4-0 up after 15 minutes, through Harley H and a Valentino G-P hat trick. 4-0 was the score line at the half time break, as the game fizzled into a training game atmosphere. After reminding ourselves what a good chance this was to get a big win and confidence into the next round, the boys raised their game again. Goals from Finn K, Harley and a 35 yard thunderbolt from Tino saw the game out in resounding fashion. A superb response to exiting the other cup, and the boys are now looking forward to either Clitheroe or Lancaster Grammar in the semi finals at home in March!
AKS travelled to Rossall with three U11 teams for an afternoon of rugby, playing two contact matches and one touch and came away with two wins. We took all of the boys to give everyone the opportunity to play, resulting in balanced squads across the three teams and valuable game time for all. Across all teams, our defensive performance stood out, with players showing strong line integrity and spacing, reflecting the work completed in our co-curricular rugby sessions. It was very pleasing to see this transfer into competitive match play, helping us stay organised and effective in defence.
In attack, we ran forward with the ball and made positive efforts to move it coast to coast, stretching the opposition and creating scoring opportunities. This approach led to some really positive performances and results, underlining the progress being made across the group. Overall, the afternoon showed that AKS rugby is in a very positive place, with clear development in both skill level and understanding of the game.
A team Won 8 – 3, B team Won 11-5, C team lost 2 - 8
