AKS Lytham 1st XI 191/8 (X. Dineley 49, A. Kelly 46, H. McKeown 31*) were defeated by MCC 252/2 (J. Pearson 65*, A. Dufty 48, I. Walling 40*)
In an engaging split-innings encounter, the MCC’s superior firepower with the bat, combined with a clinical bowling spell from A. Dufty, secured a 61-run victory over AKS Lytham.
The MCC opened the match with a solid 93/0 in their first 20 overs, led by an unbeaten 48 from Dufty. AKS Lytham responded steadily in their first block, reaching 73/2, with A. Kelly and X. Dineley both going into lunch unbeaten on 30, keeping the contest finely balanced.
The game shifted gears in the second half as the MCC accelerated impressively, adding 159 runs in their final 20 overs. J. Pearson anchored the innings with a composed 65*, while I. Walling provided late-innings impetus with an unbeaten 40 from 22 balls.
Faced with a challenging target, AKS Lytham’s reply was disrupted by Dufty’s effective spin, as he claimed 4 wickets for just 18 runs. Despite a resilient 31* from H. McKeown and a brisk 23 from R. Urquhart, the required rate proved too steep, and AKS Lytham fell short as the overs ran out.
The team showed excellent resilience against strong opposition and can take pride in their performance.
