A Visit from the Deputy Lieutenants and Under Sheriff of Lancashire

We were honoured to welcome distinguished guests to assembly on Thursday. Sir Bill Beaumont, Mrs Caroline Wareing and Mr David Cam inspired and enthralled us with a fascinating insight into the roles of Deputy Lieutenant and as an Under Sheriff of Lancashire.

We learned about the long history and significance of these positions, which date back hundreds of years. Our visitors explained how they represent His Majesty The King in Lancashire when he is unable to be present, attending prestigious events across the county on his behalf. The children were particularly interested in the ceremonial dress, especially the long silver swords carried as part of the formal attire.

It was especially meaningful for our Year 6 Service and Democracy Ambassadors to hear about the Deputy Lieutenants’ role as advocates for volunteers and their commitment to supporting communities across Lancashire. They spoke passionately about the importance of service, encouraging our pupils to volunteer and reminding us that giving is far more rewarding than taking.

These values align closely with our commitment to character education through the Round Square philosophy, which underpins our curriculum. We look forward to welcoming our guests to future events in school and building relationships as their chosen school of the year.
