A Rehearsal Diary Entry (09/09/24) - by Ella P, Year 11

Recently, we had our first rehearsal for Sweeney Todd after the summer break, and as always it was so much fun.

We worked on a song called ‘Epiphany’ which is from Act 1, it was very cool to create even though it was such an intense song.

My favourite part of the rehearsal was three of us, Miss Worthington, Henry, and myself, just playing with ideas on how to portray the characters and the song.

When working on a musical you have so many ideas you can toy with, some good and some bad, but testing them out to see if they work is fun because even if the ideas are silly, you can at least get a laugh out of it. Leading on from that, a funny moment that comes to mind is the part where we throw a chair. I was taken so off guard when it happened, and the way Henry threw it just made me laugh.

Another thing, even though it’s such a serious song, it’s very easy for us to break character. Sometimes with some of the lines I just couldn’t hold it together, and I'd burst out laughing. I always have a good time at rehearsals, and I always find myself looking forward to them.
