AKS Lytham GCSE Students Set a High Standard Once Again

PUBLISHED 22 August 2024

Following last week’s outstanding A-level results, we are delighted to celebrate another very strong set of academic outcomes from our GCSE students.

As always, the statistics, with virtually half of all grades hitting the top 9 to 7 level, build on the wide array of engagement, experiences and accomplishments in so many areas beyond the classroom.

Examples include Academic and Sport Scholar Alfie K (nine 9s, one 8, plus a 9 in Further Mathematics), who is also a 1st XI footballer, and Alfie R, another Academic Scholar and Coding Club stalwart, who achieved six 9s, three 8s, and a 9 in Further Mathematics. Other high performers included Rhys N (five 9s, four 8s and a 9 in Further Mathematics), a frequent resident on stage in our school musicals, and Zain N (three 9s, three 8s, three 7s), whose results back up the knowledge frequently on display in our Quiz Club.

Few students have been as widely involved in school life as Kirtika S (four 9s, four 8s, one 7 and an 8 in Further Mathematics): alongside her strong academic credentials, Kirtika is a member of school Chamber Choir, a soloist in numerous concerts and, as a Sport Scholar, a regular player in school sports teams. Fellow performer and Drama Scholar Evangeline D (four 9s, four 8s, one 7 and a 6 in Further Mathematics), is a member of our Amnesty International Group, and features amongst our stellar casts in our school productions. Alongside Evangeline, All-Round Scholar Lucy T (three 9s, four 8s and two 7s) has also taken lead roles in our shows at the Lowther Pavilion. They are joined by Jacob B (one 9, three 8s, four 7s and one 6) who, alongside being a mainstay of the Robotics Club, is a prominent stage performer.

Many of our students have paired their exam successes with impressive contributions to the sporting life of the school, including brilliant footballer and captain of the victorious ISFA U14 team Eva W (six 9s, three 8s, and a 5 in Further Maths). Alongside Eva, we have Daisy-Mae E (four 9s, three 8s and two 7s) who plays in the U16 hockey and netball teams, and Harry J (seven 9s, one 8 and one 7, plus an 8 in Further Mathematics), whose strong tennis career includes participation in the Lancashire Tennis Academy and reaching the recent final in the ‘Play Your Way to Wimbledon’ tournament, where he took to the grass at SW19. They are joined by Lancashire cricketer and 1st XI footballer Rory U (five 8s, three 7s and one 6), Rory’s footballing teammate and rugby player Daniel M (one 9, six 8s, two 7s and a 7 in Further Mathematics), first team rugby and Sale Sharks Academy member Will W (three 8s, four 7s and two 6s), and 1st XV and Lancashire rugby player Tommy M (one 9, five 8s, two 7s, one 6, and a 7 in Further Mathematics).

Headmaster David Harrow said:

‘Understandably, results days can look like they are all about statistics, where people interrogate the figures to discern the truth. But, this risks missing the value of all of the individual stories, of everything that has been achieved, and of every small triumph or challenge or slice of joy there is to be found each day. So, in celebrating another set of fine grades from a brilliant group of young people, I am most excited by the contributions they have made every day, and the magic they bring to our school community. They completely deserve all that they have achieved.’

Next Open Day: Saturday 12th October. Email admissions@akslytham.com to register.
