Once again, the vibrant array of accomplishments shines a spotlight on enthusiastic engagement both in the classroom and beyond, with a huge diversity of experiences and opportunities adding context and colour to a strong set of GCSE grades.

Examples include Lancashire U16 hockey player, Sophie F (nine 9s and 9 in Further Maths), and Library Monitor Captain, Amber C (also nine 9s and 9 in Further Maths). Keen linguist, Amelia B (eight 9s, one 8 and 9 in Further Maths), and member of both Psychology and Ethics societies, Libby C (seven 9s and two 8s), also have much to celebrate.

Anya K (nine 9s and 8 in Further Maths), lead singer in student band, 8:fifteen, has achieved her Grade 8 on piano, and is a member of both Senior and Chamber choirs. She plays hockey for the senior teams, has completed her Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award and is looking forward to being part of the AKS delegation at this year’s Round Square International Conference in Kenya in October.

Jess A (seven 9s and two 8s) represents Lancashire for U17 Hockey, plays the clarinet in both Concert and Swing bands, is a member of both Senior and Chamber choirs and belongs to our Bring Me Sunshine charity initiative. She is also a member of the Student Leadership Committee and is working towards her Silver Duke of Edinburgh award.

Toby C (five 9s, four 8s, one 7 and a 6 in Further Maths) is captain of our U16 Rugby Lancashire Cup winning team and was part of our Senior Rugby Tour to South Africa last year. As well as playing for the Fylde Rugby U16 team, he is on the Sale Sharks Development Performance Pathway and plays for our 1st XI Cricket team and U16 Football team. Toby will join Anya in Keyna in October for this year’s Round Square International Conference.

Sam L (four 9s, one 8, two 7s and two 6s) plays 1st XV Rugby and was also in this year’s winning County Cup U16 Rugby team, last year’s rugby tour to South Africa and represents AKS for football, cricket and basketball. In addition to the rugby team’s success, he also became a County Cup Finalist in our U16 Basketball team, as well as playing for the U18 Bury Blue Devils Basketball Team.

Toby and Sam are celebrating alongside Josh S (one 9, four 8s, four 7s and 7 in Further Maths), who joined them on the U16 Lancashire Cup winning rugby team, and tour to South Africa. Harry C (five 9s, three 8s and 7 in Further Maths) has been an active member of both our Bring Me Sunshine and AKS Action charity initiatives and has gained his Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award.

Success is also being celebrated by Anya’s bandmates from 8:fifteen. This includes Hugo F (five 8s, two 7s, two 6s and 6 in Further Maths), who is a member of the Student Leadership Committee, our AKS Action charity initiative and who plays saxophone for both our Concert and Swing bands, having achieved Grade 8 in both the piano and saxophone. He will join Anya and Toby at the Round Square Conference in Keyna in October. Also joining them is pianist for 8:fifteen, Priyanka R (four 9s, five 8s and a 6 in Further Maths), who was awarded United Learning’s national ‘Best in Everyone’ Award for Leadership and Service for her work with Bring Me Sunshine.

Keen saxophonist, Christian L (five 9s, two 8s, two 7s and 7 in Further Maths), has also played an active role in our AKS Action charity initiative and has completed his Silver Duke of Edinburgh award.

Headmaster David Harrow said:

‘In the sweep of headlines and statistics, there is a risk of overlooking the individual stories and triumphs, and also the context of the first ‘ordinary year’ since 2019.

We are, of course, delighted to see that this cohort has maintained the superb standard of their AKS peers from recent years in spite of the disruption that affected students across the country, and I applaud everyone from our school and elsewhere for weathering those storms and emerging in great shape at the other end.

We often talk about people pursuing their passions and achieving their ambitions and, beyond the catchphrases, it has been wonderful to see this group of individuals do exactly that, and in so many ways, whether on stage, on the sports pitches, out in the community or reaching out across the world. I await with eager anticipation the next stage, as our students move into the Sixth Form, ready to welcome new courses and opportunities, new challenges and friendships, as another academic year begins.’
