Head of AKS Nursery and Preparatory School
Mrs Amanda Ilhan joined AKS Lytham Independent School as the new Head of AKS Nursery and Preparatory School in January 2018. Amanda has previously taught in Bristol and Cheshire, and worked as a deputy head teacher in Manchester, before being appointed as Head of the British International Junior School of Istanbul eight years ago. Alongside running that successful school, Amanda was an active member of the Council of British International Schools (COBIS) and led accreditation teams in schools around the world for the Council of International Schools (CIS).
AKS Nursery and Preparatory School achieves exceptional academic outcomes. By Year 6, 60% of the students are working beyond age-related expectations in their reading and mathematics. Mrs Ilhan, now in her second year at the school commended the children for their hard work at this year's prize giving, “I am so proud of all the accomplishments that the children have attained this year. The whole school defines itself through its mission statement and unique characteristics of ‘Academic Ambition’, ‘Individual Pathways’ and ‘Success and Value’. With the change of name, the Preparatory School has now defined its mission more distinctly. We are building foundations for life and preparing the children to transition into the Senior School effortlessly.”
She concluded, “We achieve our exceptional results through an individualised approach to learning and by ensuring that each child is challenged in their lessons. We are committed to improving the performance of all children, whatever their starting point and from September 2019 will have a dedicated Raising Attainment Teacher to support this. Children need to foster their own self-belief, a confidence to tackle anything that comes their way and the resilience to do so. When they believe in themselves, they can achieve anything”.
