It's hands on learning for our AKS Beauty of Science Club

PUBLISHED 07 October 2021

A new club called "The Beauty of Science" has been launched within school this term, led by Science Teacher Mrs Musa.  The club have created some beautiful soaps to sell for charity, whilst learning lots about science!

The club already has students from most year groups attending and it also has members of the Sixth Form helping out and having the chance to lead small groups, working with a particular soap and fragrance oil.

So far, The Beauty of Science Club has looked at the science behind soap making, for example, the melting point of the soap and working out the best temperature to add fragrance oil. They have also tested the soap they produced and looked at ways to improve the quality.

This week the group has looked at packaging and selling.

This entrepreneurial group will be selling these pretty soaps at lunchtime, outside the canteen, next week.  Prices range from £1 - £4 and will make lovely stocking fillers.  All profits go to fundraising group, AKS Action.
