It was another successful morning of hockey as AKS enjoyed five wins and a draw against local rivals Rossall.

The U12’s continue to impress as they followed last week’s win with more goals and another impressive final score-line.

The U12A team have made a very strong start to the season with a good mix of AKS prep school pupils and new Year 7 pupils.  They are working well together as a team and dominated the game this weekend against Rossall.  They opened the score sheet early with some excellent stick work and skills from both Kirtika S and Layla W.   The score was 5-0 with a hat trick from Kirtika at half time.  AKS continued to attack using the width, passing the ball down the line to create some excellent attacking passages of play.  Layla got her hat trick goal with a hard strike at the first penalty corner in the second half and Lola E soon added to the total slotting the ball in on the right post.  The score line finished at 8-0 to AKS after Lucy W made a lovely reverse stick shot past the Goalkeeper into the right corner.  Players of the match were Lola E & Lucy W.

The B team match was a well fought battle with both sides having times throughout the game where they had possession of the ball.  AKS were keen to make use of the width when attacking and were able to keep putting pressure on Rossall's defence in and around the D.  It was however Rossall who were able to convert their pressure into a goal just before half time. As AKS entered the second half they continued to chase, tackle and drive through the defence in the middle of the pitch, with Niamh G working tirelessly.  Charlotte C was fantastic in defence making some crucial tackles.  AKS managed to create a break in the final minutes with an excellent pass from Niamh G that Georgia L was able to chase down in the D and slot into the goal. The final score of 1-1 was a true reflection of a good game with Niamh G voted the player of the match.

The U13’s also enjoyed two good wins and following on from last week they continue to show their adaptability and versatility on the pitch as a squad of twenty girls turned out in the torrential rain to play their matches against Rossall.  The highlights of both matches were to see the girls growth in team work and retaining possession; something the squad has and will continue to work on.

The AKS U13 A team match started slowly,  the team taking time to build and take control.  Early on speedy Sophie F was put to the test.  She chased and closed down Rossall's fast right forward, shadowing her onto AKS's "Sweeper and Team of the Week Player", Priyanka R, who showed how she could take on advice and successfully put it into her game under pressure.  Although the A team won their match comfortably with goals from Carly W, Alexa M (2), Jessie A (4) and Charlotte T(2), what was most heartening was not the number of goals scored, but the team work and processes which was carried out to create goal scoring opportunities and also limit Rossall's opportunities. This display certainly warrants the whole team being awarded POM.

The AKS U13 B team certainly had to step up this week as they were playing a mixture of Rossall's A and B team players.  The AKS girls rose to the challenge and played with great determination from the onset.  The game was won with two very good goals from Zoe B and Charlotte C, but it was the vision and passing skills of Players of the Match, Katie S and Holly B which created the vital part in setting up the goal scoring opportunities.  AKS B team retained their 2 goal lead until the last two minutes of the match, where a scramble in front of the goal saw Rossall score.

The AKS U15/14 team got back to winning ways to make it a clean sweep of wins with a superb victory against Rossall.  We started well putting Rossall under pressure from the first whistle and, after a period of constant pressure, we deservedly took the lead in the 9th minute, when a great run from Prisha R saw her beat the Rossall defence and lay the perfect pass to Freya W on the left post, and she coolly found the net to make it 1 – 0.  Great pressing by the team made it difficult for Rossall to get out of their own half and two quick goals from Ziv W saw us extend our lead to  3 – 0.  Lucy B dominated the middle of the pitch and when she won the ball in the 21st minute and passed to Patsy C she made it 4 – 0.  A hat-trick goal from Ziv W before the break saw us go in to half time 5 – 0 ahead.  The second half went the way of the first, with us dominating possession and playing some great passing hockey.  A fourth goal from Ziv W along with goals from Katie T and Olivia M made the final score an 8 – 0 victory.  Players of the match were Ziv W for her 4 goals and Lucy B for her dominant performance in the middle of the pitch.

During the week the AKS Senior side faced Rossall in the National Schools Cup competition.  Rossall who proved the stronger and they came out on top.

A very young 1st XI took to the field to face a very fast and skilful Rossall side who boasted a number of top regional players.  Rossall played at pace and put our defence under constant pressure with some attractive hockey, and despite the best efforts of our defenders they took an early lead.  Anna H made some crucial takles at the back and Rebecca W showed her talent and worked tirelessly all over the pitch. Rossall however had too many quality players and we struggled to create many good scoring opportunities.  When we did get shots away the Rossall keeper was on hand to keep the ball out of the net.  Rossall were comfortably in the lead at half time and with further second half goals secured a well deserved win to progress into the second round of the national Cup whilst AKS progress into the Plate Competition.
