Rugby Reports: AKS vs St Edwards College

PUBLISHED 10 October 2019

AKS played host again this week with five teams at home.

 U12's

The U12 had a tough game against a sizable St Edwards College.  AKS looked the dominant team in the early exchanges, but were eventually beaten 6 tries to 1, despire the defensive efforts of Sammy, who lead from the front and a well finished try from  Alfie a fine try after some excellent handling by the whole side.

The U12B had another great win, with tries from Charlie, Owen, Jack and Oscar.

U14's

AKS U14 followed on with their unbeaten track recorded with another good performance against a big St Edwards college. AKS attacked hard and created space on what was a smaller pitch to what they were use to.  This was in favour of the St Edwards college forwards as one or two of them were notably bigger than anyone on the pitch however the likes of Tom, Jeremy, Max and a few others tackled hard.  We had a debut performance from Maxim who put a really good performance for his first ever rugby match, well done to him.  On the whole a good performance from all the boys on the pitch as every single one of them did their job.  Well done boys and I look forward to our next match.

Tries: Tom, Iestyn, Rio, Harvey, Jeremy

MoM- George

U15's

The U15s played a physically imposing St Edwards team and the visitors made clear their plan from the start.  They kept the ball in the forwards and using their big guys to pick and go hitting the blind side often and trying to bully AKS into submission, generally only choosing to go wide when in the AKS half. The opposition had early success and the AKS of last season might well have buckled under in such circumstances.  Not so the team of 2019/20 they met the physical challenges and scored some phenomenal tries.  In particular a crafty crossfield kick try started by Dan and finished by Rhys and a fine individual try from Joe.

In the end AKS were out-fought by a much bigger side and a couple of errors, born of fatigue, left the team playing under waves of pressure which resulted in further opportunities for St Edward's and handed them the win.  AKS were in the game until the end and every player can be proud of their contributions. They certainly learned about themselves yet again in all kinds of ways and can only get better as a result. Final result 22- 36.

Seniors

The 1st XV had a tough game against a well drill St Marys Crosby team.  AKS were slow to start and found themselves 3 tries behind in the first 15 minute.  They managed to stabilise the game through powerful running from Louis and a strong defensive effort from Ben Forrest and his back row counterparts.  As the game progressed AKS started to show some of their form from previous games, with George almost crossing in the corner.  There were other opportunities for AKS, but with a number of errors when passing, it just was not going to be AKS's day and saw St Marys finish as comfortable winners.
