Diwali celebrations in Reception PUBLISHED 23 October 2019 AKS Preparatory School Reception class have enjoyed hands-on learning and exploration of different cultures. The Reception class have enjoyed learning about the festival of Diwali and how this is celebrated. We discovered that Diwali is a Festival of Lights and that during the festival, people light up their homes and have fireworks. We made and decorated traditional style clay diva lamps and made paper lanterns. We listened to the story of Rama and Sita and learned about Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha, then decorated colourful jewelled elephants. We learned that it is traditional to make Rangoli decorations, so we made our own, some with different kinds of pasta and some outside with chalk. We tried very hard to make our patterns symmetrical.
