Year 6 to publish a book on 'War and Conflict'

PUBLISHED 24 October 2019

Parents invited to view Year 6's work on Friday 15th November (8.50am), Prep School Hall

It has been an exciting start to the year for our Year 6 classes who have been taking an immersive approach to understanding War and Conflict, including visualising what it would be like to be a solider and exploring their experiences. This work has also provided the opportunity to review and enhance the children's grammatical knowledge in line with the Year 6 curriculum.  The children are writing an in-depth narrative that will be published into a book; they will also paint a scene from the book which will be presented as gallery display for parents to view.

Just before half term, the children started a project to create their own trench model that will help understand the terms 'fire step', 'duck board' and what 'no mans land' was like.  They have meticulously crafted barbed wire, dugouts for soldiers and sandbags. The children have shown fantastic inventiveness with their creations as they have used a variety of materials such as polystyrene, cardboard, wood and much more. The children were given the choice to work individually or in a small group; those in the groups have shown amazing teamwork and communication skills through group decisions and delegation of different tasks.

Please save the date for Friday 15th November (8.50am), when Year 6's work will be on display in the Prep School Hall
