Welcome to our new AKS School Librarian

Welcome to our new AKS School Librarian

PUBLISHED 24 October 2019

Jill has a rich and varied background which will enhance both our school libraries.

We are delighted to introduce our new librarian, Jill Connolly, who joined us just before the half term break. Jill will be based in the senior school library, working alongside the English department; but will also liaise closely with Mr Rice, our prep school literacy coordinator who oversees our prep school library.

Jill qualified as a librarian in 2005 following completion of an MA in Information and Library Management from Liverpool John Moores University. Her first appointment after qualifying was managing the Children’s Department for the Holt Jackson Book Company. During that time, she represented the organisation at both the London Book Fair and the Bologna Children’s Book Fair; met with publishers on a monthly basis and managed the library stock acquisition budgets for several local authorities including Leeds City Council.

In 2009, Jill went on to work at Lancashire County Council’s Library Service in a strategic role leading on Reader Development initiatives and co-ordinating the National Bookstart Scheme for the area. For the last 5 years she has also managed the renowned Young Adult Book Award – The Lancashire Book of the Year, working with 25 secondary schools across Lancashire.

Jill has always been passionate about books and reading and has twice had the honour of judging the Carnegie and Greenaway prize for children’s books. Her work has also seen her lead on joint projects with the British Library and the Carnegie UK Trust; as well as being a guest speaker at the National Acquisitions Group annual conference.

When not working she loves sharing stories with her 3 children or going on their own adventures. She also enjoys going to see live performances when possible; whether they be music, theatre, author talks or stand up comedians. Jill is looking forward to learning more about the AKS community and developing the library for the whole school.
